    MyFOXDetroit.com – Martin Luther King Jr. Day is January 18 and a host of events across the metro Detroit area remind people to volunteer and honor the civil rights leader’s vision.

    Bloomfield Hills

      - The Roeper School in Bloomfield Hills will host a candlelight walk in honor of MLK. Particpants will also prepare and package 10,000 meals for Kids Against Hunger.

      - Date/Time: Monday, Jan. 18- starts at 4 p.m. with candlelight vigil at 6:50 p.m.

      - Location: Roeper Community Center 41190 Woodward Ave.

        - Troy Athens High School hosts a Celebration of Freedom, which features a performance by the Troy Honors Choir, readings from student essay winners, a student art exhibit and a unity walk.

        - There is no cost and participants receive free breakfast

          - The 5th annual MLK Community Fellowship Breakfast at Penna’s, featuring skits by the children of the Ministerial Alliance Mass Choir and keynote speaker Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel.

          - Location: Penna’s of Sterling Heights, 38400 Van Dyke
