• Funerals Set for Victims of Furniture Store Explosion

    WESTLAND, Mich. – Mourners are expected to gather at a funeral for one of two people killed when a suspected natural gas explosion destroyed a suburban Detroit furniture store.

    Services for 64-year-old James Zell will be held 11 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Westland. Burial will be in Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Park in nearby Livonia.

    A memorial gathering for 54-year-old Leslie Machniak will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday followed by a 7 p.m. service at Westland’s Vermeulen Funeral Home.

    The Westland residents worked at William C. Franks Furniture store in Wayne. The store was leveled by last Wednesday’s explosion.
