Take A Loved One to the Doctor® (TALOTTD) is a targeted season to raise health and wellness awareness in the African American community. This initiative launched in 2002 between Tom Joyner and the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Administration. Since then, Tom continues to encourage his listeners to make an appointment for themselves and a loved one to visit health professionals and health events…
TALOTTD is designed to:
- Reduce the health disparity between Black America and the general population,
- Improve access to culturally relevant health care information;
- Better educate members of the African American community regarding the benefits of prevention and treatment of serious diseases, and
- Create accountability overall to take a more active role in encouraging loved ones to seek health care.
Events and on-air activities will be taking place throughout the six month campaign, with the official “Take a Loved One to the Doctor” kick off on Wednesday, April 27th. Also, every last “Get Well Wednesday” of the month from May through September the Tom Joyner Morning Show (TJMS) will feature TALOTTD topics on-air supported by on-line information to further generate awareness and action pertaining to health care. Then, on Friday, September 30, 2011 the TJMS will conduct another broadcast, dedicated to TALOTTD. This National Broadcast will include an update from TJMS affiliates across the country, including multiple markets with on-air TJMS personalities reporting live and participating in the Doctor Day activities that include health fairs.
