DETROIT (WJBK) – It’s the casino surveillance video at the heart of a lawsuit against the Detroit Police Department.
Video released to FOX 2 shows what appears to be a Detroit police officer throwing a punch at Patrick Poisson on July 30 at the MGM Grand Casino. The incident took place after Poisson allegedly slapped a waitress on the behind earlier in the evening.
According to Wolfgang Mueller, Poisson’s attorney, the officer broke his client’s nose on the first punch and hit him two more times, breaking his ribs.
The officer, however, claims Poisson made the first move. He was facing charges, but they were eventually dropped. “As soon as the prosecutor’s office saw the videotape, the charges disappeared,” said Mueller.
Poisson is now suing the department for money, as well as the officer’s resignation.
