The American Heart Association and Detroit Medical Center’s (DMC) Cardiovascular Institute, in partnership with the DMC Guild will launch the first ever “My Heart. My Life.” free community health screening event. This historic event is the first of its kind for the Association and aims to provide free heart health screenings to 1,000 men and women.
Attendees will be screened for blood pressure, cholesterol, Body Mass Index (BMI), and glucose followed by the My Life Check assessment.
“Sadly, despite medical advances, heart disease remains the No. 1 killer for both men and women, but it doesn’t have to be this way,” said Dr. Joel Kahn, Interventional Cardiologist and Director of Health and Wellness at the DMC. “Heart disease is largely preventable and this event is designed to educate our community on the importance of knowing the status of their heart health and then helping them make the appropriate lifestyle changes so that they can reach optimal health.”
DMC physicians and health experts will be on-hand throughout the course of the day offering free health advice and counseling based on the results of each attendee’s My Life Check score. In addition to screenings, other event highlights include fitness demonstrations, healthy cooking demos, health panels and local celebrity guest appearances.
