(WXYZ) – Even though we’re not voting for President, today is an Election Day for many communities throughout metro Detroit. You may be voting for a new mayor, city commission or school board.

Voter turnout is typically low for off-year elections like this one, but for many communities they offer residents the chance to vote on some of the biggest issues for their neighborhoods. Polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

In the city of Detroit, voters are being asked whether they approve of revisions to the Detroit City Charter. The changes to the Charter could lead the way for a City Council that represents individual districts throughout the city instead of the current at-large system.

Warren, the state’s third largest city, will select a mayor.

Communities throughout the region will choose new school boards and vote on ballot questions that determine how much residents pay in taxes for the coming years.

What will you be voting on in your neighborhood?

The state of Michigan has a new tool to view the choices you’ll have when you go to vote on Tuesday.
