President Barack ObamaHow tall is Obama? Figuratively speaking, that’s one for the history books, but in terms of height, it’s an easy question to answer. Obama stands 6 feet, 1 inch tall. That puts him in a three-way tie with Andrew Jackson and Ronald Reagan for fifth place on the list of tallest U.S. presidents.

The shortest president, James Madison, stood a mere 5 feet, 4 inches. That works out to 64 inches—6.8 inches below the presidential average of 70.8 inches. At 73 inches, Obama is taller than average, though if he were a professional basketball player, he’d be something of a small fry.

According to data from the 2007-08 season—the most recent available on the league’s website—the average NBA player stands just below 6 feet, 7 inches tall. The shortest player that season was New York Knicks baller Nate Robinson, whose 5-foot, 9-inch frame would put him at risk of having his shots blocked by Obama.
