Coming to grips with M1 challenges for residents, businesses, pedestrians, cyclists

DETROIT – The North End Woodward Community Coalition (NEWCC) and supporters will march for seven days –a Jericho Journey — to draw attention to the challenges the M1 Trolley system presents to the people who will have to live with the construction and the finished product.  NEWCC members feel the M1 actually serves a small number of people and is indicative of the emerging two Detroits, one being developed at the expense of the other.  The economic wall between them should come down.  Each day, as the march grows, attendees will highlight a different challenge including how the project will affect pedestrians, people in wheel chairs and bike riders.  Ironically, the project will also impact bus riders, most of whom will have relatively little use for the trolley.
