Southfield (Mich.) junior defensive back and wide receiver Ray Buford, is quickly gaining more momentum as the off-season continues and his senior year gets closer. As of right now, Buford holds offers from Boston College, Eastern Michigan, Ohio, Toledo and Western Michigan and with growing interest from Michigan State, Cincinnati Purdue, Pittsburgh and Minnesota, it’s only a mater of time before he receives more offers.
Now, Buford has already visited a number of colleges during the off-season. Back in February, he visited both Central Michigan University and the University of Toledo. Then in late March, Buford returned to the state of Ohio to visited the University of Cincinnati.
This past Saturday, Buford once again returned to state of Ohio but this time to visit Ohio State University and according to Buford, his visit to Ohio State went very well.
“My visit to Ohio State was great!” Buford said with excitement. “During my visit, I sat in meetings, watched practice and talked with cornerback coach and special teams coordinator Kerry Coombs. Overall, I feel the visit really opened my eyes and showed me what it looks like to play on that high level and what it takes to play on that high level.”
Although, Buford didn’t leave the Ohio State campus with offer, he says he feels an offer could be given in the future and he added that he could definitely see himself playing in a scarlet and white jersey one day in the near future.
“I didn’t receive an offer but there is a chance I could receive an offer from them during the summer after I attend camp there again.” Buford replied. “If I were to receive an offer from Ohio State, I could definitely see myself playing for the Buckeyes. They have a winning tradition and an incredible will to not lose and give their all every game. Their offense is very exciting and I like the fact that they bring a high tempo type of offense to the field. I think head coach Urban Meyer is a great coach and I have nothing but high praise for him. Most importantly, I believe they would help me to maximize potential and get to the next level.”
So as you can see, Buford is very high on Ohio State but for now Buford will have to wait and see on the Ohio State offer. However, in the meantime, Buford says that he plans to continue visiting schools, starting with his upcoming visits to Michigan State and Pittsburgh and then later with visits to Western Michigan and Ohio University, who he holds offers from.
“I have upcoming visits to Michigan State and Pittsburgh, so I am definitely looking forward to those.” Burford said. “Going into visit with Michigan State my main goal is to talk to head coach Mark Dantonio and get an idea of their interest in me. During my visit to Pittsburgh, my goal is to get a feel for the new coaches and their way of coaching.”
“Since I have offers from Western Michigan and Ohio already, my main focus going into those visits is to see if they fit my style of play. Other than that, I also want to see where each program is headed and determine if I could help speed their progress up and help them grow as a program.”
I don’t know about you but there is no doubt in my mind that school that Ray Buford eventually commits to will indeed be lucky to have him as part of their program. However, until that time, get use to hearing Buford’s name more and more.
