UAW-Ford Partners with Detroit Lions Head Coach for

Message of Sportsmanship and Mutual Respect to Detroit Youth

    WHAT:

New Detroit Lions Head Coach Jim Caldwell and UAW-Ford are teaming up to deliver a powerful message to more than 300 Detroit high school student-athletes — the importance of sportsmanship and respect.   At a dinner hosted by UAW-Ford on Wednesday, Apr. 16, students from 18 Detroit Public Schools and the EAA (Education Achievement Authority) will have an up-close-and-personal session with Coach Caldwell.

“Student-athletes are leaders at their schools,” said Caldwell. “But real leaders display sportsmanship, and make the right choices on and off the field.”

UAW-Ford Vice President James Settles knows Detroit’s future rests with young people, and that youths need to understand violence is never a solution. “UAW-Ford is committed to the neighborhoods where our members live and work, and violence is far too prevalent,” said Settles.  “Coach Caldwell recognizes that mutual respect is key to building good relationships and strong communities.” Students will engage in table-top discussions with current and former NBA and NFL players, who will be seated at each table.
