Detroit Cass Tech (Mich.) senior guard/wing Mike Laster truly emerged into an impressive player during his senior year while averaging 15 points and six rebounds per game. On Saturday, Laster made the decision to continue his basketball playing career when he committed to Ohio University. According to Laster, he and his family couldn’t be happier about his decision.
“I feel good about my commitment to Ohio University and I feel like I made the right decision.” Laster said. “I made my decision with the help of my parents after seeing how great the school was and my parents support my decision a hundred percent.”
During his impressive playing career, Laster earned various college interest including offers from Buffalo University, Bowling Green State University, Youngstown State University, Florida A&M University and Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. While Laster says he appreciates every offer he received, he firmly believes Ohio University is the best place for him.
“I chose to commit to Ohio because of the opportunities I can provide for myself, as well as their program.” Laster replied. ” I like everything about Ohio. Academically, they provide great educational opportunities and athletically they have great coaching staff, great players and amazing fan support.”
There is no doubt that Laster will make an impact with the Ohio Bobcats. At 6-foot-4, Laster has great length and overall size which will transition well at the college level. Offensively, he demands attention whenever he touches the ball and he has the ability to score in a variety ways, whether it be by driving to the basket or shooting his mid-range jumper. As he continues to develop his ball handling skills and defensive prowess, I expect he will quickly become a key player for the Bobcats during his collegiate career.
One thing’s for sure, Laster can’t wait to get started at Ohio University, both in the classroom and on the court.
“I’m undecided on a major right now but I’m thinking about majoring in either engineering or business. Regardless, of what I major in, I plan to be a good student who excels in the classroom. On the court, I plan to bring positive energy with the will to win. As a freshman, I believe there is chance for me to play early but my main goal is to contribute in whatever way that helps the team win.”
