It was on Tuesday that Marc Stein of ESPN reported that the Detroit Pistons were close to having a new head coach and president of basketball operations and that person was Stan Van Gundy. Then on Wednesday morning, Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press, reported that Stan Van Gundy had signed a deal to become the Pistons Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations.
Well on Thursday, the Pistons made it official, when team owner Tom Gores introduced Stan Van Gundy as the Pistons new head coach and president of basketball operations during a press conference at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Van Gundy and the Pistons agreed to a $35 million, five-year contract and Van Gundy says there is no doubt that the Pistons have talent, and he’s eager to come in and get to work.
Overall, this seems to be a solid move for the Pistons. Radio One Detroit Sports Contributor, Lauren Beasley (L-Beasley) talks about how Van Gundy can help the Pistons evolve but she also discusses the areas to watch and her concerns about Van Gundy being the Pistons’ President of Basketball Operations.
