Michigan’s 2015 recruiting class continues to take shape, as four-star offensive tackle Grant Newsome from the Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, N.J., made a commitment to play for Michigan on Wednesday. He chose Michigan over Penn State, his other finalist.

When he did announce his decision to commit to Michigan, he decided to do things a little differently by posting a heart-felt letter instead of the doing the usual  Twitter announcement.

I don’t know about you, but the way Newsome announced his decision was impressive and it would be nice to see others take note of this.

With this commitment, Newsome becomes the seventh member of Michigan’s 2015 class, joining safety Tyree Kinnel, corner-back Garrett Taylor, linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr., quarterback Alex Malzone, offensive lineman Jon Runyan Jr. and kicker Andrew David.

This is obviously a big commitment for Michigan considering the shape of Michigan’s offensive line last season. According to HighSchoolSports.NJ.com, in 2013, Newsome helped Lawrenceville to 2,101 passing yards and 17 touchdowns to go along with 1,467 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground from his offensive tackle post. He received First Team All-State Prep and First Team All-Mid-Atlantic Prep League honors following the season.

At 6-foot-7 and 280 pounds, Newsome is very tall and lean and you add that with his raw athleticism and talent and you’re talking about a young man with plenty of overall talent and potential.

He is very strong in pass protection and is very sound in providing good blocking in the running game. Due to his length and overall frame, he is able to protect the edge, but he does however need to refine his technique and add some more weight to his frame.

Overall, this is a solid commitment for the Wolverines and if they continue down this road, lookout.
