PicsArt_1402792871796The Michigan State football team has added another player to its 2015 recruiting class and their new addition is another Michigan native and product. Jackson Lumen Christi (Mich.) 2015 athlete Khari Willis committed to the Spartans on Saturday afternoon during the Spartans elite one-day camp in East Lansing.

Willis picked up an offer from the Spartans back in late January. He admitted to MLive.com, that he has been looking to commit to Michigan State for a some time now and that his commitment to the Spartans, was just a matter getting his mom up on the Michigan State campus and getting her approval.

“I liked it (Michigan State) for a while,” he said. “You meet those guys, they are great coaches, they’ve got it covered from A to Z.”

“I finally got my mom up here, that was the big thing, she liked it, liked the coaches a lot,” said Willis. – MLive.com

The 6-foot, 201-pounds athlete, is very versatile and can play multiple positions. On Rivals.com, he is listed as running back but Michigan State was recruiting him as an athlete and according to 247Sports.com, Willis will likely play either defensive back or linebacker when he eventually steps on the field with the Spartans.

According to MLive.com, Willis worked with the defensive backs group at the camp on Saturday but Willis says he is open to playing where they need him.

Willis worked with the defensive backs group at camp, but he’s open to other positions, he said.

“Wherever they want me to play,” Willis said. “They had me at safety today, and I did all right there, but it’s wherever they want me to play. –  MLive.com

I personally like the idea of him on the defensive side of the ball. He is very versatile and he should be able to play in the secondary or at linebacker.

However, I wouldn’t throw out the idea of him possibly being moved to running back. Willis reportedly rushed for 1,565 yards and 27 touchdowns in eight games last fall for Lumen Christi. If you look at his film, you will see that he is shifty runner who has the potential to make defenders miss in the open field but to play in the Spartan’s back field he would need to work on his blocking and his ability to be used in the passing.

Another area to watch for Willis, is the Spartan basketball team. The two-sport athlete also plays basketball and he isn’t a slouch on the court either. The highly rated point guard, reportedly averaged 14 points, four rebounds and two steals per game for the Jackson Lumen Christi Titans last season.

While Willis told MLive.com that he loves the game basketball, he also added that isn’t sure how or if playing two sports at Michigan State would work out.

“I’m not so sure about that,” Willis said. “If it’s not too much for my body, I’ll try to do it, or if it doesn’t interfere with what Coach D (Dantonio) has me doing.” – MLive.com

Regardless of whether he steps on the Spartan’s hardwood, this is a strong and solid commitment for the Spartans on the gridiron. Willis is the fifth member of the Spartans 2015 recruiting class, joining quarterback Brian Lewerke, offensive linemen Kyonta Stallworth and Noah Listermann and defensive back Tyson Smith.

For those wondering about the commitment status of Detroit Cass Tech (Mich.) 2015 quarterback Jayru Campbell who committed to Michigan State back in August of 2013, Detroit Free Press explains his current situation with the Spartans.

I don’t know what Campbell is going to say on Monday but in the meantime, I must say the Spartans are building a nice 2015 recruiting class and I can’t wait to see who they add to their arsenal next.
