BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – Birmingham Police are telling FOX 2 an adult woman was killed in an accident. They say she was attempting to get on a SMART bus just after sunset.
Police are not described exactly what happened. They say the investigation is still ongoing.
The driver of the bus has been cooperating. An alcohol breath test was given as standard procedure. There’s no evidence of any alcohol at the fatal scene.
Passengers on the bus were not hurt.
People were having dinner at a sidewalk cafe across the street on Old Woodard when the accident happened.
“We just were dining with some friends, and we heard, ‘Oh, my God. Oh, my God.’ We turned to look, and I just saw the bus go over the curb or something. Just make a bump, and that was all that I saw. The bus stopped, and I just saw a person (laying) there and there wasn’t any movement afterward,” said witness Jenny LaFleur.
Birmingham Police say the woman was trying to get on the bus, something horrible happened, and she was injured.
Birmingham Fire rushed her to Royal Oak Beaumont where she was pronounced dead.
