Nearly 800 Boys Will Get a Once in a Lifetime Opportunity to Play on the Same Field as the Athletes They Admire in Front of Thousands of Fans
|The experience of playing at Ford Field means a lot to our youth participants aging out of our program and the coaches who volunteer their time|
Detroit PAL is excited to have The Detroit Lions sponsor our Football Championship games this year because it allows our players and coaches to experience the arena of a professional sport that many kids typically wouldn’t have access to.
Football, is Detroit PAL’s largest and longest running program out of the eleven programs offered. With 2600 youth participants in football, part of Detroit PAL’s football programs’ success is the 800 coaches and volunteers who donate there time to mentoring our youth. Given the statistics of crime and single parent households in Detroit, Detroit PAL is proud that 85% of coaches in our organization are African American males. These coaches lend their time five days out of the week to building character through athletics with the hopes of seeing their kids make it to Ford Field on November 9th.
Football Championship games at Ford Field will be filled with unlimited football action, dancing and cheering for team favorites. Our 7-8 year old division championship game will start at 9 am. Players in our 13-14 age division will compete starting at 12:30 pm. Our 10-11 age division will begin at 3 p.m and our final championship game of day will be our 12-13 year old division at 5 pm. Detroit PAL’s phenomenal unity cheerleaders will perform at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $5 for adults. $2 for ages 6 to 14 and 5 and under are free.
The fun filled day of activities under the covered dome of the Lions home field is expected to draw thousands of excited fans. Each game will be followed by an award ceremony honoring participants, the Most Valuable Player and the Coach of the Year.
