A tribute to special moms from the metro Detroit areas who have overcome adversity while exhibiting extraordinary strength and poise
DETROIT, Mich. – (April 30, 2014) –Pearls of Wisdom and Grace, LLC (POW) is starting the Mother’s Day celebrations early by recognizing five strong extraordinary women from the metropolitan Detroit area, who have overcome difficulties while raising their families. Mothers are often the glue that holds the foundation of the family together and if she buckles under pressure all is lost, that is why POW and Money Matters for Youth are teaming up to host the first annual pre-mother’s day event from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m., Thursday, May 8 at the intimate Jazz Café, inside the fabulous Music Hall, 350 Madison Detroit, MI.
The event is free to the public, guest must be 21 years of age or older.
The evening will not only celebrate mothers, but will also serve as a fund raiser for the Money Matters for Youth Summer Camp, which takes place every year at the East Side campus of Wayne Community College. The camp teaches children, 8 to 18, financial responsibility, entrepreneurism, citizenship and etiquette, among other things, in a one week – all day session where the kids experience day trips to financial institutions, a golf course and fine dining establishment. Also, they hear from specialist in the fields of education, health, banking, as well as for-profit and non-profit organizations.
“Celebrity moms are recognized across the nation every year, it’s time that moms like you and I, those who have made it through the struggle and raised our children without missing a beat, get the recognition they deserve, said Gail Perry-Mason.”
The program will include brief speeches from the honorees, who include: Venus Mason-Theus, Tamiko Parker-McKenzie, and Karen Shobe (posthumously), Andrea Clark, and Yvonne Celestin. Also, raffle tickets will be on sale at the event for the purchase of auction items (proceeds to go to the Money Matters for Youth Summer Camp). If auctions aren’t for you, guests can simply sponsor a child for the camp, at the low price of $75. There will be a cash bar and food for purchase during the evening.
