The USC Trojans made a big recruiting splash on Saturday, as 2016 linebacker Daelin Hayes of Orchard Lake Saint Mary’s (Mich.) verbally committed to play for the Trojans, making him the first commit for USC in the class-of-2016 and the first Michigander to join the Trojans since current Green Bay Packers hybrid linebacker and defensive end Nick Perry.
Hayes announced his commitment to play football in Southern California via Twitter:
There is no denying that Hayes is huge commitment for the Trojans. The St. Mary’s star had more than ten scholarship offers which included offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Tennessee.
While some may be surprise that he decided to verbally commit now, considering he still has another two years of prep football to play at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s before heading out to college, Hayes tells 247sports.com that USC is the perfect for him.
Hayes has been at USC all week, his first time checking things out.
“Everything from start to finish was hands down amazing,” Hayes told 247Sports. “USC is the perfect fit for me as a student, as a player and as a person.
“Great academics, great football, great people. Fight on!”
The future U.S. Army All-American, is every bit of what the Trojans want in a linebacker. As of right now, Hayes is rated the No. 6 outside linebacker in the class of 2016 by 247Sports and No. 1 in the state of Michigan.
At 6-foot-3 and 227-pounds, Hayes already has the division-one frame and the scary thing is, he is still growing. If that’s enough, Hayes has the strength and technique to take on physical blocks and wrap up his opponents in the back field or open field, but he also has the speed, athleticism and instincts to handle running backs and tight ends in pass overage, making him a versatile linebacker, who could provide the Trojans plenty of plays.
Most importantly, Hayes is a hard-working young man who is a true student of the game.
“I can guarantee that coach, I will be the hardest working player on his team.” Hayes told TheDZone.net. “I would also let the coach know he would get a leader. My work ethic is something I take serious pride in.”
If your Trojan fan, who is worried about Hayes changing his mind, I wouldn’t be, because according to Allen Trieu, Hayes says he’s 100% for the Trojans, even if others keep recruiting him.
Overall, this is a great pick-up for the Trojans and even better, this is a great moment for Hayes who has worked hard and was finally able to make his dream come true today by telling his mom she doesn’t have to worry about anything anymore.
