Detroit Historical Society Highlights Ilitch Artifacts in Memory of the Great Detroiter.

DETROIT – February 14, 2017 – The Detroit Historical Society joins the Ilitch family and the entire community in mourning the death of Mike Ilitch.

“He made history. His investments in Detroit and his commitment to giving back to the community he loved are an important part of our collective past that will continue to impact our future,” said Bob Bury, Society Executive Director.

Image result for Mike Ilitch getty imagesThe Detroit Historical Society is honored to tell the important Detroit stories that comprise so much of Mr. Ilitch’s legacy.  Stories of Little Caesars, the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings and the Fox Theater are all fixtures in the Detroit Historical Museum’s Allesee Gallery of Culture. Mike and Marian Ilitch’s handprints are also included on the Museum’s Legend’s Plaza.

Mike Ilitch was indeed a true Detroiter whose presence will be missed.  The Detroit Historical Museum will be open and free of charge on Wednesday for anyone who would like to visit the Allessee Gallery or Legends Plaza to view the many artifacts that recall his life.  Photographs welcome.

The Detroit Historical Museum is located at 5401 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI 48202, approximately 2 miles north of the Fox Theater, where Mr. Ilitch will lie in repose on Wednesday, February 15, 2017.  Public visitation for Mr. Ilitch is from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m.  The Detroit Historical Museum is open from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
